evening wind down routine

Most wind-down advice is a list of things to do. Dim the lights. Put the phone away. Stretch. All fine, and all of it asks something of you at the hour you have least left to give.

There is a shorter version, and it is physical. The last hour of the day goes differently depending on what your body is registering while it passes. Waistbands, seams, fabric that clings when you move — none of it is loud, and all of it is being processed.

Changing clothes is the smallest possible version of a wind-down routine. It takes forty seconds and requires no decisions.

What helps at that hour is weight. A sweatshirt at 282 GSM — 8.3 ounces per square yard — sits on the shoulders instead of moving with every breath. You notice the weight once, when you put it on. After that you stop noticing anything, which is the point.

282 GSM is 8.3 ounces per square yard.

A standard tee is 150 to 180. A canvas tote is around 340.

Heavier fabric moves less. Less movement is less for your body to track at the hour it is trying to stop tracking things.
